Gloucester

Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon was one of the largest makers the private owner goods wagons that dominated the pre-grouping era of British railway history. Our range of wagons is drawn from their heyday between around 1890 and 1930.

These private owner wagons fall into three distinct design eras: the earliest were built with internal bracing with mostly proprietary components, the second period – dating from around 1910 – has external bracing and increasingly adopts emerging RCH guidance. The third period largely conforms to the version of the RCH specification published in 1923.

The currently available version of our models is designed for use with the Brassmasters Gloucester underframe kit (their part number R042). This combines the strength, finesse and easy sprung suspension possible with an etched brass subframe, with the ease of construction possible using a resin printed body. These body kits are available direct from Brassmasters as well as ourselves

All of our body kits include a detailing pack. This contains appropriate axleboxes, springs and buffers (with both printed heads and those for use with your own metal or sprung metal heads). Instructions along with tips for building wagons using these body kits can be found here.
